CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry is a nationally recognised certification that is commonly known as the White Card course. Participants in the White Card Course aim to complete the mandatory work health and safety training needed to work in the construction industry.
The course requires participants to display knowledge of health and safety legislative guidelines to ensure they work safely and prevent injury or harm.
This unit meets the general construction induction training requirements of:
- Part 1.1 Definitions and Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations
- Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 for Western Australia
- Division 3 of Part 5.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 for Victoria.
Workers are expected to complete site-specific induction training before performing construction work. First Aid Pro is a Registered Training Organisation (RTOs) licensed to deliver the CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry course.
How is the White Card Course Delivered?
White Card Training is assessed and delivered face to face (6 hours). Before attending the face-to-face White Card training session, you must complete the pre-course reading, a self-paced, self-directed course component. The time required for each learner depends on the learner’s existing first-aid knowledge, abilities, and experience. You must complete an LLN check on the day of your course to complete the registration process.
How is the White Card Course Structured?
All students will be evaluated using a combination of the following assessment methods:
- Practical Demonstrations: Correctly fitting personal PPE/ Oral communication
- Project (Complete Risk Assessment)
- Knowledge Assessment
White Card Course Requirements
- Applicants must be 16 years old or over
- Present Photo ID on the day
- Provide a photo of the head, neck, and shoulders before starting the course
- Use numeracy skills to find and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs
- Communicate effectively by asking questions to clarify instructions and alert others about potential construction problems or hazards
- Read and obey simple pictorial safety instructions and basic safety guidelines written in English
- Please notify the office if additional learning, literacy or numeracy assistance is required.
White Card Course Fees

White Card Course Covers
This course covers identifying and verbally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control standards, and recognising procedures to respond correctly during potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly choosing and wearing common personal protective equipment (PPE) for construction work.
White Card Certificates
After completing this course, students will be issued with the following:
- A statement of attainment for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, referred to as a (White Card).
- White card issued from Firstaidpro (RTO:40407)
Students can receive their White Card on the same day of their course, giving them shorter wait times and more opportunities for work.
