Manual Handling Refresher

Manual Handling Refresher – Annual Update

To take part in FirstAidPro’s Manual Handling refresher training, it is expected that students have already completed the HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely course. The refresher course is designed to renew and refresh someone’s manual handling qualifications rather than being a stand-alone qualification.

For any staff involved in the moving and handling of clients – including student nurses (pre-placement), occupational therapists, nurses, health and nurse aides, ambulance staff, physiotherapists, medical staff and people working with the aged or disabled – it is recommended (and often required) that this course be taken annually.

The nationally recognised course provides the relevant knowledge and skills for a healthcare worker to safely and responsibly care for clients in a nursing, health, aged care, or home care role. The course has a particular focus on the client’s well-being, the worker’s safety, and the community’s welfare.

There is no requirement to complete any online assessments for the course, as all assessments take place during the course and are handled directly by the instructor.

Hours spent on the course may also be claimed as continuing professional development hours for nursing, midwifery and other similar roles (as approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia).

As an Australian registered training provider (RTO #40407), FirstAidPro is particularly proud of both the professional standard of our training, and the highly experienced, friendly trainers we provide.

The Manual Handling refresher course (just like the full HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely certificate) is conducted at one of our specialised training facilities – fully equipped with industry-standard hospital beds, hoists, slide sheets and other equipment needed for the safe practice and demonstration of manual handling skills. We strive to make our courses enjoyable, informative and fun, with plenty of hands-on experience and practical examples from our trainers.

The course is particularly suited for workers in hospital and residential settings, including health workers, nurses, aged care workers, and support staff. The course also carefully conforms to the hazardous manual tasks code of practice, and all other relevant state and territory legislation.
